Die Mandragora (gemeine Alraune) ist eine giftige Heil- und Ritualpflanze aus der Familie der Nachtschattengewächse. Aufgrund ihrer besonderen Wurzelform, die der menschlichen Gestalt ähnelt, wurden ihr früher magische Eigenschaften zugeschrieben. Der Inszenierung liegt eine Auseinandersetzung mit Diskriminierung, Gewalterfahrung und othering von Homosexuellen zugrunde. Für Mandragora arbeitet Jan Jedenak zum ersten Mal mit dem renommierten „King of Physical Theatre“ (The Scotsman Newspaper) Al Seed aus Schottland zusammen. In dieser Arbeit erweitert Jedenak die ästhetischen Mittel und Erzählweisen des Figurentheaters um Körper- und Bewegungstechniken des physical theatre.

The mandragora (common mandrake) is a poisonous medicinal plant from the nightshade family which has a history of ritual use. Because of its root’s special shape, which resembles the human figure, magical properties have been attributed to it. This staging is based on an exploration of discrimination, experiences of violence and othering of homosexuals. For Mandragora, Jan Jedenak is working for the first time with the renowned “King of Physical Theatre” (The Scotsman Newspaper) Al Seed from Scotland. In this work Jedenak expands the aesthetic means and narrative methods of puppet theatre through body and movement techniques of physical theatre.
