English belowMr Vast – aka Henry Sargeant – wurde ausgebildet als Schauspieler und „Dark Clown“, bevor er in die Musikbranche wechselte und als Sänger und Frontmann der legendären Band Wevie Stonder auftrat, die von der BBC einst als „die Monty Pythons der elektronischen Musik“ bezeichnet wurde.
In Zusammenarbeit mit Al Boorman von Wevie, der den Sound von Vast mitgestaltete, wird eine ähnliche Welt aus anarchistischer Komik und einer wilden Mischung musikalischer Einflüsse erkundet, allerdings in einem traditionelleren „Song“-Format (das sie mit großer Freude spektakulär falsch verstehen).
Während die Studioaufnahmen ein Zweimann-Projekt sind, ist das Vast-Live-Erlebnis ein Ein-Mann-Festival des Wahnsinns, bei dem Sargeant im Rampenlicht steht: ein Slapstick-Kabarett, ein surrealistisches Happening, ein Avantgarde-Konzert, ein tragikomischer Karneval, ein ekstatisches Ritual. Mr Vast führt die Tradition der großen englischen Exzentriker und der Music-Hall-Varietévorstellungen ins 21. Jahrhundert nach dem Brexit fort und lässt in seinen skurrilen und wunderbaren Figuren, Kostümen, Masken und Requisiten auch Einflüsse des absurden Theaters, des Archetyps des Narren sowie internationaler Volkstraditionen einfließen. Als wandlungsfähige Persönlichkeit und schamanischer Moderator entführt Vast das Publikum auf Reisen in fantastische neue Welten und ruft dabei die tiefsten Sehnsüchte und Ängste aus unserem kollektiven Unterbewusstsein hervor.
Mr Vast – aka Henry Sargeant – trained as an actor and ‘dark clown’ before veering off into music as a vocalist and frontman for the legendary Wevie Stonder, once dubbed by the BBC as “the Monty Python of electronic music”.
Working with Wevie’s Al Boorman to create the sound of Vast – Sargeant the lyrics & vocals, Boorman the music & production – a similar world of anarchic comedy and wild fusion of musical influences is explored, but in a more traditional ‘song’ format (which they enjoy getting spectacularly wrong).
While the recorded side is a two man boat, the Vast live experience is a one-man festival of madness with Sargeant in the spotlight: a slapstick cabaret, a surrealist happening, an avant-garde concert, a tragicomic carnival, an ecstatic ritual. It’s all of this and much more..
Carrying the torch of the Great English Eccentric and music hall variety performance into the post-Brexit 21st century, Mr Vast also draws on the Theatre of the Absurd, the archetype of the fool and international folk traditions in his weird & wonderful characters, costumes, masks and props. A metamorphic presence and shamanic compère, Vast takes audiences on journeys into fantastic new worlds, summoning the deepest desires and fears from our collective unconscious.
