English belowDas Konzertprogramm im Westflügel wird vom Perkussionisten BEN BENNETT am Freitagabend eröffnet. In seinem radikal minimalistisch und prozessorientierten Ansatz nutzt er ein stark reduziertes Setup aus einzelnen Trommelfellen, Membranen und Alltagsgegenständen. Durch erweiterte Spieltechniken entlockt er diesen rohen Objekten eine überraschend komplexe Klangvielfalt. Seine Performances sind dabei von intensiver physischer Präsenz geprägt.
Anschließend führt das vierköpfige Ensemble FEU FOU durch hypnotische Kompositionen aus selbstgebauten Instrumenten, gebrochenen Drum Machines und geisterhaften Gesangsfragmenten. Zwischen experimentellem Folk-Punk und schwebendem Dreamcore entfaltet die Gruppe eine eigenwillige Klangwelt voller Intimität und Irritation.
Gugulethu Duma alias DUMAMA ist Musikerin, Komponistin, Klangdichterin und Produzentin. In ihrer künstlerischen Praxis beschäftigt sie sich mit der Dekonstruktion und Kritik archaischer Darstellungsformen in der südafrikanischen und afrikanischen Klang- und Performancekultur. Ihre Musik bewegt sich zwischen traditioneller und futuristischer Poesie: in der sich ihre Stimme als Instrument, Archiv und Träger von Erinnerung, mit dem Xhosa-Stringinstrument uhadi, Live-Loops, Feldaufnahmen und subtilen Electronics verbindet. Im Rahmen des Festivals wird sie begleitet vom Schlagzeuger und Komponisten LUKAS AKINTAYA sowie dem Pianisten und Produzenten ÀBÁSE.
Vor und zwischen den Konzerten gibt es Drinks und DJ-Sets in der Bar des Westflügels.
The concert program at Westflügel will be opened by percussionist BEN BENNETT on Friday evening. With his radically minimalist and process-oriented approach, he uses a highly reduced setup consisting of individual drumheads, membranes, and everyday objects. Through extended playing techniques, he draws a surprisingly complex variety of sounds from these raw objects. His performances are characterized by an intense physical presence.
Following that, the four-piece ensemble FEU FOU will take the audience through hypnotic compositions featuring homemade instruments, broken drum machines, and ghostly vocal fragments. Somewhere between experimental folk-punk and ethereal dreamcore, the group creates a unique soundscape full of intimacy and disorientation.
Gugulethu Duma, also known as DUMAMA, is a musician, composer, sound poet, and producer. In her artistic practice, she explores the deconstruction and critique of archaic forms of representation in South African and African sound and performance culture. Her music straddles the line between traditional and futuristic poetry: her voice—as an instrument, an archive, and a vessel of memory—blends with the Xhosa string instrument uhadi, live loops, field recordings, and subtle electronic elements. During the festival, she will be accompanied by drummer and composer LUKAS AKINTAYA and pianist and producer ÀBÁSE.
Before and between concerts, there will be drinks and DJ sets in the Westflügel bar.
