Als Regisseur Romeo Castellucci gefragt wurde, warum er nicht in seinen eigenen Stücken mitspielt, antwortete er:
„Schauspieler zu sein ist der schwierigste Beruf der Welt – man ist immer nackt, zur falschen Zeit am falschen Ort, und alle beobachten einen dabei.“
In BLUSH sind es die Puppen, die nackt sind, am falschen Ort – und nicht wir. Und doch sind wir es irgendwie auch. Das Itim Ensemble präsentiert eine neue Produktion unter der Leitung von Gony Paz, in der mit einer Vielzahl von Materialien, Bildhauertechniken, Fotografie und Puppenanimation die körperlichen Empfindungen und Reaktionen des Versteckens und Enthüllens nachgezeichnet werden. Mit verspielter, fast kindlicher Unschuld erforschen wir Verlegenheit, Intimität und die Verletzlichkeit sowohl der Puppe als auch der Puppenspieler*in – die sich dahinter „versteckt“.

Embarrassment reveals itself in moments of lost control – when an attempt to hide something fails and something is revealed. It thrives in the gap between what I think of myself, what I believe others think of me, and what they actually think.
When director Romeo Castellucci was asked why he doesn’t act in his own plays, he replied: ‘Being an actor is the most difficult job in the world – you’re always naked, in the wrong place at the wrong time, and everyone is watching you.’
In BLUSH, it is the puppets that are naked, in the wrong place – not us. And yet, in a way, it is us too. The Itim Ensemble presents a new production directed by Gony Paz, in which a variety of materials, sculptural techniques, photography and puppet animation are used to trace the physical sensations and reactions of hiding and revealing. With playful, almost childlike innocence, we explore embarrassment, intimacy and the vulnerability of both the puppet and the puppeteer – who is ‘hiding’ behind it.
